Three public meetings are taking place in the next two weeks related to the upcoming second phase of construction for the Green Line Extension (GLX) to Somerville and Medford.

Thursday, September 18: Fall Construction Overview
6 to 8 p.m., Somerville Holiday Inn
30 Washington St., Somerville

The MBTA will present an overview of construction elements that will be beginning this fall. Project elements to be discussed include early utility work at the Broadway Bridge in Somerville/Medford and the Medford Street and School Street Bridges in Somerville; site work, retaining walls, drainage and utilities for the Union Square Branch along the Fitchburg commuter rail line in Somerville; and site work, viaduct foundations, drainage and utilities along the Medford Branch between Lechmere Station in Cambridge and Washington Street in Somerville. More information about the GLX can be found on the project website.

Tuesday, September 30: Integrated Art Program Review
6 to 8 p.m., Somerville Holiday Inn
30 Washington St., Somerville

The GLX Project received more than 70 submissions to the second phase of the GLX Integrated Art Program Request for Qualifications, announced in July. At this meeting, public input will be sought on the submissions under review and may be considered by the MBTA when making the final selection of the artist or artists who will be retained to contribute to the final design of the GLX Stations at Gilman Square and Lowell Street in Somerville, and Ball Square and College Avenue in Medford. Artists previously were selected for work on the final design of the Lechmere, Union Square and Washington Street Stations. More information on the GLX Integrated Art Program can be found on the GLX website.

Thursday, October 2: Construction Working Group
4 to 6 p.m., Center for the Arts at the Armory
191 Highland Ave., Somerville

The GLX Construction Working Group advises the MBTA on the final design and construction issues associated with the seven new stations and a storage/maintenance facility being planned as part of the Green Line Extension. The focus of this meeting is intended to be an interactive session, discussing construction and upcoming community meetings. The agenda and meeting minutes will be posted on the GLX website.
